Services Available:
For the Parent privately:
- review, explain and organize the student’s file
- advise on how best to communicate with
school personnel
- translate edu-speak into understandable terms
- explain the requirements and options of the special education process
With the Parent and the School:
- reference state and federal education laws
and practices
- help to interpret educational and
psychological testing
- Team meetings- attend with you and/or
help to prepare
- provide suggestions for resolving issues
and concerns
- give input on IEP’s , 504’s, behavior and transition plans
- negotiate for educational services,
placements and funding
On behalf of the Student:
- collaborate with other professionals such as doctors, psychologists, therapists and lawyers who are also involved with student’s needs
- support for disciplinary issues, meetings and hearings
- research and review proposed educational services and placements
- monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the IEP
- attend formal mediations and hearings with BSEA
- teach you and your child how to be a better advocate for yourselves
