Services Available:

For the Parent privately:

  • review, explain and organize the student’s file
  • advise on how best to communicate with
    school personnel
  • translate edu-speak into understandable terms
  • explain the requirements and options of the special education process

With the Parent and the School:

  • reference state and federal education laws
    and practices
  • help to interpret educational and
    psychological testing
  • Team meetings- attend with you and/or
    help to prepare
  • provide suggestions for resolving issues
    and concerns
  • give input on IEP’s , 504’s, behavior and transition plans
  • negotiate for educational services,
    placements and funding

On behalf of the Student:

  • collaborate with other professionals such as doctors, psychologists, therapists and lawyers who are also involved with student’s needs
  • support for disciplinary issues, meetings and hearings
  • research and review proposed educational services and placements
  • monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the IEP
  • attend formal mediations and hearings with BSEA
  • teach you and your child how to be a better advocate for yourselves
